Wolf Girls 2015
“Julie isn't just an ordinary girl.
She has a secret!”
Wolf Girls is a story about a young girl named Julie who has a secret… she’s a wolf! But she’s also a lonely girl without any friends. Tired of being made fun of by classmates and getting in trouble with teachers Julie decides to seek out a friend that she can relate to. This 26 page illustrated children’s book is about being weird and finding friendship. The original story was written by my life-long friend Shauna Nicholson and digitally illustrated by me in 2015. We printed and distributed the book with Blurb’s self-publishing software.
This is the original cover art for both the hard and soft printed copies. Unfortunately, in the great computer crash of 2016, I lost all of the original art files for the story! (I know! I know!… I obviously had to learn the hard way but since this moment I’ve been way better at backing my files up in the cloud.)
Shauna and I have been friends since we were nine years old! We included our own dedication to each other at the beginning of the book… something we wrote to each other passing notes many many many moons ago.
These are my favorite two pages from the book. I think it’s where the style for the art was the most successful and resolved.
Tho I would make many different style choices than I had if I were to do Wolf Girls again it’s a project that I am ultimately proud of… it’s an unconventional story that I hold near and dear to my heart.
